2007 Travel Awards

So far the WhiteSci Travel Awards have proven a great success and we would like to grow the scheme this year. This year we would like to make 10 awards of R2500.

We strongly encourage you to apply for these awards and we make every effort to respond to your applications as soon as we receive them. We have not received many applications from institutes other than Wits, UCT, University of Stellenbosch and University of Johannesburg, so we would love to hear from the rest of the country too this year!

Travel award Application Criteria

  • You must be a post-graduate student studying in South Africa
  • Preference will be given to students studying in the fields of molecular or cell biology.
  • The awards should contribute towards travel to local or international conferences

Application Process

  • Send a letter of motivation outlining the work that will be presented and the reasons that assistance with travel or subsistence is required.
  • Ask your supervisor to prepare a letter of motivation supporting the application.

At present there is no set format or application form. The bursaries are awarded on the basis of the scientific content as well as evidence of genuine enthusiasm for the applicant’s field of study and a record of achievement in his or her field.

Five Travel Awards will be made between March 2007 and August 2007 and the remaining five will be made between September 2007 and February 2008.

This year we would like to reserve four  of the awards for students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Applications should be addresses to the Sales Director, Shirley Ferris and e-mailed to shirley@whitesci.co.za
